The Beta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. partnered with Healthy Start Loving Steps, Eastern Virginia Medical School (EVMS), and Old Dominion University (ODU) nursing students to host the Barbershop Talk & BBQ at Upper Echelon Barber Lounge in Chesapeake.
The event brought together fathers, mentors, coaches, and other positive male role models for open conversations about mental health, fatherhood, mentorship, and community wellness. Participants also received health resources while enjoying free haircuts, food, and fellowship.
“The Barbershop Talk & BBQ created a space for authentic conversations and meaningful connections,” said Steve Couther, President of the Beta Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. “By working together, we can strengthen families, promote mental wellness, and make a lasting impact in our community.”
The partnership reflects a shared commitment to advancing health equity, reducing the stigma surrounding mental health, and strengthening the Hampton Roads community through collaboration and service.
